New football blog design launched
Thursday, August 6th, 2009
I was asked by http://www.kevincoleman.ie/ if I would be interested in designing a football based blog based around articles, opinions and news. I jumped at the chance to get involved and came up with the design below.
I wanted the design to be primarily focused on the content and imagery and not let it distract from this. A newspaper style column based design seemed to be the way to go with minimal colour (in fact kept to a palette of three main colours) and I’m pleased how it turned out. I built the final design into wordpress. Let me know what you think!

Very nice work on backpagefootball.com. (Found the site via the Irish Web Awards.) Layout is lovely and clean unlike most other football and sport websites. Like it a lot.
One thing I did notice is that the site barely uses categorisation. The only caegorisation on the front page is hidden away right at the bottom. I’d think that a lot of visitors would like to see category links above the fold so they can quickly find news about teams or leagues or certain types of news (eg transfers) that they’re interested in. Just a suggestion.

smart design, perhaps categories across the top navigation would be a nice addition as John suggests though. My own recent efforts with my world cup tickets site is pretty plain by comparison I must admit though.

Thanks for the comments, I am going to add in the category links with a drop down to the top menu. When the site first started this wasn’t needed but it will definitely work now.
